The Public Library prides itself on its ability to offer information and resources for people from diverse backgrounds. Whether you are new to the country, trying to build skills in English, or establishing a community, the library has multiple online and in-person resources to help you get started.

For learning English

  • Mango: Mango offers self-paced classes for daily learning that are available through an app. This app allows users to choose a target language and a mother tongue so that they can build skills comfortably and sustainably.
  • Universal Class: Universal Class offers multiple classes for anyone learning English. It also provides classes on U.S. History and local government for anyone preparing for a citizenship test.
  • Classes: The library offers both in-person and virtual classes to join other English Language Learners to practice language skills and get conversation practice.

For Kids / Parents / Teachers

  • BookFlix: This resource is available in both English and Spanish. It is easy to toggle between the two languages. Children, parents, and anyone interested in exposure to both languages can quickly listen to stories, videos, and other materials in a fun and interactive way.
  • Teachables: This resource provided through Scholastic provides a wide variety of learning resources, including teacher-created lesson plans, activity sheets, and mini-books. Users can print, save, and share content to learn and practice reading and writing in both English and Spanish.

For Job Seekers

  • LinkedIn Learning: If you are looking for a job and are interested in building skills, LinkedIn Learning has many high-quality courses led by quality instructors in multiple languages, including Spanish.
  • Udemy Business: This resource offers thousands of on-demand courses in multiple languages, including French, German, Japanese, and Spanish.

For Genealogy / History Research

  • Hispanic Life in America: Explore Hispanic Americans' influential contributions and history through historical documents and news sources.
  • Ancestry: This resource allows you to research your heritage in other countries. It has limited functionality in Spanish.

Reading

  • PressReader: Read magazines, periodicals, and newspapers from international news sources. Change the language to Spanish to access all material available.
  • Libby: Read eBooks or listen to audiobooks in Spanish or other languages. Some books will be translated, and some will reflect the nationality of the author and their preferred language. Pick what works for you!

For U.S. Citizenship Test Prep

  • Conoce Tus Derechos: As a new citizen, it’s essential to understand your rights and how you are protected. No matter what your status, you deserve fair treatment.
  • Universal Class: Prepare for the U.S. Citizenship with their on-demand course.
  • Peterson’s Test and Career Prep: Access information such as a U.S. Citizenship eBook, prep, and practice tests.
