The Colbern Road Library Center (1000 NE Colbern Road) closed March 15, 2020, to begin construction of a new 33,000-square-foot building on the same site. The new building will reopen to the public as of Wednesday, May 26.

If you had requested materials be sent to the Colbern Road Branch and were notified that the items were available for pick-up at the East Lee's Summit Branch, those holds are being transferred back to the Colbern Road Library Center. You will receive a new notice when your items are ready for pick up at the Colbern Road Library Center. Please check your pick-up notice to see where your hold pick-up location is for your items. The branch book drop is available for returns as of Wednesday, May 26.
Your New Library Experience is Here!
We are pleased to inform you the brand new Colbern Road Library Center will reopen as of Wednesday, May 26. The 33,000 square foot building will be the hub for MCPL’s Square One Small Business Services team and will include:
- A new enclosed community room with an operable partition wall that seats up to 240
- A children’s program room that seats 106
- 5 smaller collaboration rooms
- Co-working space for entrepreneurs and small businesses
- A teen space
- A coffee shop
This project is part of Library’s Capital Improvement Plan made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.
