Holds and Returns


Before July 31, Buckner Branch customers are asked to check out any items they have been notified are available at the Buckner Branch for pickup. Any holds not picked up before close of business on July 30 will be transferred to:

Grain Valley Branch

Mon. - Thur. 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.; Fri. 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Sat. 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. 

After July 31, Library materials that become available and were scheduled to be picked up at the Buckner Branch will also be transferred to and available at the Grain Valley Branch. If you would like your holds assigned to a different branch during this renovation, please call or visit any MCPL branch and ask a staff member for assistance in redirecting your holds to your desired location. 


The branch book drop will not be available for use while the branch is closed. Materials can be returned to the Grain Valley Branch or any MCPL location not closed for construction.

Storytimes and Book Groups

After July 31, Buckner Branch’s Thursday Storytime will meet on Thursdays at 10:00 a.m. at Vault Studios (333 S. Hudson St., Buckner, MO). Buckner Branch customers are welcome to attend storytimes at other MCPL locations during the branch’s closure. 

Buckner’s Adult Book Group will continue to meet at 1:00 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of the month at the Rockin’ B Mercantile (26911 E US Hwy. 24, Buckner, MO).

Programming and Services

Select Buckner Branch programs will be held at the Farview Neighborhood Library (18109 E. 12th St. N., Independence, MO) during the renovation. For more information, visit our events page.

As an MCPL customer, you are invited to attend programs (including storytimes), browse the collection, use public computers, access free Wi-Fi, and use other Library services at all branch locations including the Grain Valley Branch, the North Independence Branch, and the Farview Neighborhood Library.

Your New Library Experience Is Coming!

The renovation of this branch is part of MCPL’s Capital Improvement Plan.  This project is made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture + Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.

Renovation Enhancements:

The Buckner Branch will undergo changes during the renovation, including the following:

  • Refreshed exterior with automatic entry doors
  • New windows and/or skylights
  • New paint, carpet and ceilings
  • New lighting
  • Outdoor seating area
  • Improved Wi-Fi coverage and access
  • Landscape enhancements
