Celebrating Today’s Martha Stewarts

Celebrating Today’s Martha Stewarts

August 3, 2022

If you’ve ever felt envy of “the hostess-with-the-mostest”—with their flawless decorations, delicious hors d'oeuvres, and effortless can-do attitude—trust us, we’ve all been there! But the best place to start evolving your entertaining ideas is to visit your local Mid-Continent Public Library branch. We have several ways that we can help you achieve your entertaining dreams!

During the pandemic, many individuals lost their ability to entertain guests face-to-face, and although people are encouraged to continue safe practices, most individuals are eager to return to their small get-togethers, large parties, or even romantic date nights. However, as any host will know, a successful event needs fresh and invigorating ideas to encourage guests to socialize and enjoy themselves thoroughly. But where should you look to find this information? Often enough, people look toward celebrities for ideas and entertaining recommendations.

Not too long ago, the number one authority on entertaining was the one and only Martha Stewart—who also celebrates a birthday in the month of August! While she may not have the same following as she did once, it is evident that her influence still remains. You can see her simplicity and home-spun flair in individuals like Chip and Joanna Gaines, who have built their own brand around the Magnolia Table, sharing recipes alongside their own tips for making your house the home you want. Chip and Joanna’s books are hugely popular in the Library’s collection, in addition to books by Ree Drummond (better known as the Pioneer Woman).

Although Ree has some wonderful cookbooks, she has expanded her Oklahoma home recipes and ranch lifestyle to create a merchandized brand. Not only are there Pioneer Woman cooking utensils and devices, but she has even dabbled with writing children’s books! Her sweet demeanor and can-do attitude is also very reminiscent of Martha Stewart. While many of the celebrities I have mentioned have successful television programs, sometimes it can be difficult for viewers to stream or record them. But have no fear! You don’t have to look any further than your local MCPL branch to help you discover resources, such as cookbooks, eBooks, eAudiobooks, and even magazine articles.

Plus, there are all kinds of free Library programs to help you and your family develop the home you have into the home you love! Take for example, a program that allows you to learn about decorating with thrift store and flea market finds, and so many more! The Library is always the place to find information—especially when you’re looking to impress your guests with a fun new recipe or decorations that will have all your guests asking, “Where did you find that?!” While trends may come and go, entertaining has not lost the essence of its charm. Let the library help you discover all of these tips—both at a branch and in our digital library—and more today!
