Explore the Stacks: Celebrity Memoirs and Autobiographies

Unfinished by Priyanka Chopra Jonas

December 28, 2021

Have you ever wanted to peek inside the lives of the famous? From jaw-dropping gossip to raw truths, celebrities’ memoirs and autobiographies look behind the glamorous curtain of the lives we think we know. Have a favorite singer, band, actor, or influencer? Chances are, if you take a step through the stacks of the Library, you can pick up a book that will reveal a whole new dimension to that star you admire.

Sinéad O'Connor is certainly one singer that springs to mind when it comes to raw truths. Releasing her autobiography, Rememberings, in 2021, O'Connor doesn’t hold back as she recounts her life—the triumphs and the controversies and her unwavering commitment to activism.

Another favorite from 2021 was Cicely Tyson’s Just As I Am. Sadly, the entertainer passed away three days before the book’s release, but it serves to mark her lasting legacy. Check out this blog from March of 2021 about the book.

Most of us will never meet the people we see on the screen, but a celebrity autobiography or memoir can clear the air (or muddy the waters!) of the real-life human being behind the persona.

Here are a few popular titles released in 2021:

•    Unfinished by Priyanka Chopra Jonas
•    Yearbook by Seth Rogen
•    You Can’t Be Serious by Kal Penn
•    Will by Will Smith
•    All About Me! My Remarkable Life in Show Business by Mel Brooks
•    Yours Cruelly, Elvira by Elvira

For more suggestions, check out my book list: Celebrity Voices.

Happy reading!
