“Books à la Carte” Book Group Celebrates Culinary Literacy

“Books à la Carte” Book Group Celebrates Culinary Literacy

June 21, 2021

Mid-Continent Public Library has created a brand-new book group for all the foodies out there! Books à la Carte is a new book group that was developed to bring together (virtually, for now!) all of the folks who explored culinary projects over the past year. During 2020, MCPL staff had many discussions about baking, cooking, food and wine pairing, and more, and this is how the idea for Books à la Carte was born. For this new book group, a staff member from the Library’s Boardwalk Branch will select a culinary-related fiction or nonfiction book every month for participants to read (digest, if you will!) and discuss.

Book à la Carte will go beyond your usual foodie conversations! For example, in September, the group will read America’s Test Kitchen books in honor of the popular PBS show’s 21 years of airtime. To participate, customers will select the America’s Test Kitchen book of their choice or contact Booktalk@mymcpl.org to have a randomly selected book sent to their local MCPL branch. Customers and staff will try out different recipes from the books and then come together to discuss their America’s Test Kitchen experience.

Fans of food and drink should register for an upcoming Books à la Carte program today! This book group will be hosted on different days and times to accommodate varied availability. The group will discuss its first selection, Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach, on Saturday, July 3, at 2:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Join us for delicious reads and satisfying conversation!
