Reads for Ramadan

April 22, 2021

Ramadan has begun! This year, Ramadan began the evening of April 12 and will end the evening of May 12. For those of the Islamic faith, this holy month is intended to be a time of reflection, prayer, and focus on what’s important, including charity toward others.

As part of this observance, many Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset each day and refrain from habits like smoking, caffeine, and gossiping. At the end of the 30 days, Ramadan concludes with Eid al-Fitr, which usually includes congregating with friends and family and enjoying a feast.

If you’re observing Ramadan, interested in learning more about the Islamic faith, or just simply looking for a new book to enjoy, check out this list of books by Muslim authors that Library staff have compiled. From educational kid’s books, to romantic comedies with Muslim Americans as the main characters, to the memoir of Muslim feminist and activist Linda Sarsour, this list offers a wide range of reads for all ages.

Ramadan Mubarak! Happy Ramadan!
