Prep for the Polls with VOTE411!

Prep for the Polls with VOTE411!

March 22, 2022

Mark your calendar! A general municipal election will be held in Missouri on April 5, 2022. Ahead of the election, the League of Women Voters of Kansas City, Jackson, Clay, and Platte Counties (LWVKC) is once again offering its nonpartisan election resource called VOTE411.org. This online tool allows users to plug in their address and see exactly what will be on their ballot on election day.

According to LWVKC, “Over 450 candidates are running for more than 200 municipal, school board, and special district seats in Jackson, Cass, Clay, and Platte counties” in the April 5 election, making it more important than ever for voters to gather information before they get to the ballot box.

VOTE411 includes candidate information (provided by each of the candidates), as well as arguments for and against ballot initiatives. After reviewing the choices, you can check the box next to your selection and print, text, email, or post a copy of your selections to social media. This completed sample ballot is a convenient reference that will save you time and stress when you head to the polls!

In addition to this online resource, LWVKC has also co-sponsored several candidate forums this month, and recordings of these can be found on the organization’s YouTube page. Once you’ve done your election prep, be sure to verify your current polling location through VOTE411 or on the Missouri Secretary of State’s website.

The deadline to register to vote in the April 5 election has passed, but voters can register for the August 2 primary election in Missouri up until July 6, and registration for the general election on November 8 must be completed by October 12. View the full list of election dates and deadlines on the Secretary of State’s 2022 Missouri Election Calendar. And don’t forget that your local Library can help you navigate voter registration.

Whatever your prep process, be sure to make your voice heard and cast your vote on election day!
