Happy 150th Edith Wharton!

Edith Wharton was born on January 24 in 1862. She often wrote about New York society around the turn of the century. In 1920, she won the Pulitzer Prize for The House of Mirth. In addition to her fictional works, she also published books on interior decorating.

Happy Groundhog Day!!

There’s no specific date for when Groundhog Day was first celebrated, but it’s believed to stem from Candlemas, a holiday commemorating the purification of the Virgin Mary. Candlemas was celebrated on February 2, and people believed that if it was sunny that day, winter would last another six weeks. The largest Groundhog Day celebration is in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.  Crowds of over 30,000 come out to see Punxsutawney Phil. According to lore, Phil drinks a magic elixir every summer to account for his long life, because groundhogs normally live between 6 to 8 years.

Family Storytime

What’s happening at Blue Springs North Branch’s Family Storytime? In a word, lots.

Every week, very special families gather for a fun time. There is a short themed video. Kids who have become "storytime" buddies sit next to each other and enjoy this quiet time. Next, we move on to some fun and rollicking stories. The stories are interactive, and the kids have fun with their contributions. Okay, I don’t know about you, but I am ready for some "wiggle time." This is when we stop sitting, and well, we wiggle!
