The Conference Center at MGC

Mid-Continent Public Library is home to two unique event spaces: The Conference Center at the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, MO, and the Auditorium at Woodneath Library Center in Liberty/Kansas City, MO. Our facilities are equipped with exceptional audiovisual capabilities, Wi-Fi, and on-site parking. Each venue can accommodate a variety of events. Let our team help you find the perfect space for your next event or meeting. All uses of event spaces are expected to comply with the guidelines outlined in the Library Conduct Policy.

Rental Rates

The Conference Center at MGC

Rates are based on Half-Day Usage where the event exceeds no more than 4 hours, including setup & teardown and Full-Day Usage where the event exceeds no more than 8 hours, including setup & teardown.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have a personal event, such as a baby shower or birthday party?

Personal events, except for weddings, can be held at the Conference Center at MGC and Auditorium at Woodneath Library Center.

Does my meeting have to be genealogy related to use the Conference Center at MGC?

No, the meeting or event does not have to be related to genealogy.

What is required on my part for clean-up?

Unless otherwise arranged, Event Staff will leave it to you to staff and manage your meeting/event but will be available to help with any unforeseen issues. The customer will be responsible for:

  • Removing excess trash and food waste from Event Space during the event.
  • Removing all food waste, boxes, trash, decorations from the Event Space before leaving and discard in dumpster. (Ask Event Space staff for dumpster locations).
  • Cleaning up any noticeable spills, stains from the event space.
  • Remove all equipment and supplies brought into the space at the conclusion of the meeting/event unless prior arrangements are made.

How much time is provided for set-up/tear-down?

You should plan your set-up and tear-down time into your reservation time. If you need more time than your rental package allows, you have the option of purchasing additional rental hours.

Does MCPL provide linens?

No, MCPL doesn’t provide linens. Linens can be acquired from one of our approved vendors.

Are chairs and tables provided?

MCPL provides tables and chairs. If you are interested in acquiring additional tables and chairs through a vendor, please contact the Customer Events Coordinator for more information.

Is onsite parking available?

Onsite parking is available at both locations.

Will there be an MCPL staff member on site during my event?

The Event Space staff will set up the space prior to your arrival and will be onsite during the event meeting/event to assist with building access and maintenance. The Event Space staff will assist with any last-minute setup of furniture and AV. If AV assistance is needed throughout the meeting/event, the Event Space staff will provide AV tech support.
