I was going to create an ongoing blog series that focused on historical figures who were famous but no one remembers why. It was going to be called "Relics of Obscurity". I decided that the first subject would be Millard Fillmore.
Millard Fillmore was President. His first and last name sort of rhyme. It seemed like a good idea, in a cut your own hair sort of way. Its not surprising that"Relics of Obscurity" ran aground.
We at MCPL have a history of great leaders in the position of the Director of Libraries. Our sincerest condolences are extended to the family of our former director, John W. Ferguson. Mr Ferguson came to work for MCPL in 1964, became the Director in 1981 and held the position until his retirement in 1998. Our current Director, Dick Wilding is retiring soon and Steve Potter will be assuming the position after his departure. We anticipate a smooth transition and look forward to the leadership he will provide.
