Tell Me a Story Oral History Collection

Oral history is an important part of genealogy and local history. It provides insight into the viewpoints, personalities, and ways of life of those who came before. At MGC, we consider it part of our mission to preserve historical narratives for future generations of genealogists.

Tell Me a Story is a Mid-Continent Public Library initiative that provides the ability to record and preserve memories, stories, and living history of residents in the Kansas City metro area.

Learn more about the Tell Me a Story program, including how to record your own story.

The below are unfiltered accounts of interviewees’ personal history, told in their own words. As such, the content of some recordings may not be suitable for all audiences. Sensitive content may include but is not limited to language and/or descriptions of violence. All views and opinions expressed within these recordings are that of the individual and do not reflect the opinions of the Midwest Genealogy Center or the Mid-Continent Public Library system.
