Earn an Accredited High School Diploma and Career Certificate Online

Career Online High School provides adult learners the opportunity to earn their high school diploma while gaining real-world career skills. The program is offered entirely online and can be conveniently accessed 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. Once enrolled, students are paired with an academic coach that offers ongoing support and connects them to resources to help them be successful.

Unique to the COHS program, students also navigate a career track designed to teach the skills needed to advance in a career or pursue further school/training. In addition to a high school diploma, graduates can earn a certificate in one of the following areas:

  • Certified Protection Officer
  • Child Care and Education
  • Commercial Driving
  • Food and Hospitality
  • General Career Preparation
  • Home Care Professional
  • Homeland Security
  • Hospitality and Leisure
  • Office Management
  • Retail Customer Service

Mid-Continent Public Library has partnered with Literacy KC and the Kansas City Public Library to provide a limited number of COHS scholarships to qualified adult learners. Applicants who successfully complete the online self–assessment, the prerequisite course, and an in-person interview will be considered for free enrollment.

Who Can Apply to Career Online High School?

  • Adult residents 19 years or older
  • Successfully completed 8th grade
  • Have a library card from MCPL or KCPL (or be willing to get one - get an MCPL card / get a KCPL card)  
  • Willingness to dedicate 8-10 hours a week to coursework
