Platte City Branch

The Platte City Branch will be temporarily closed for renovations on Thursday, September 20, 2018. The branch is targeted to reopen on Monday, November 5. Please check the website to confirm prior to your visit.

Holds and Returns


Before September 20, please plan to visit the Platte City Branch to check out any items you have been notified are available there for pick up. Any holds not picked up before the branch closes will be transferred to:

Boardwalk Branch
8656 N. Ambassador Drive
Kansas City, Missouri 64154

After September 20, library materials that become available and were scheduled to be picked up at the Platte City Branch will also be transferred and available at Boardwalk Branch. If you would like your holds transferred to another branch during this renovation, please call or visit any MCPL branch and ask a staff member for assistance in redirecting your holds to your desired location.


The branch book drop will not be available for use while the branch is closed. Materials can be returned to any MCPL location not closed for construction.

Programming and Services

During the branch’s closure, several Library programs will be held at the following:

As an MCPL customer, you are invited to attend programs, including storytimes, browse the collection, use public computers, access free Wi-Fi, and use other Library services at all branch locations including the Boardwalk Branch and the Smithville Branch.



Your New Library Experience is Coming!

The renovation of this branch is part of the first phase by Mid-Continent Public Library. This project is part of Library’s capital project made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.

Renovation Enhancements:

The Platte City Branch will undergo changes during renovation, including the following:

  • Updated program room with new A/V
  • Outside seating area
  • Updated children’s area  
  • New carpeting
  • Additional new furniture pieces
  • New printer for public use
  • Updated children’s computers (AWEs)  
  • New and improved Wi-Fi coverage and access  
  • Program room TV on cart for public use  
  • New and updated public computers  
  • Landscaping enhancements
