Reopening Dates: The youth services floor of the branch will reopen to the public on Monday, October 21. The remainder of the branch will reopen in late November 2019 (date TBD).
Holds and Returns
Before October 7, 2019, North Independence Branch customers are asked to check out any items they have been notified are available at the North Independence Branch for pickup. Any holds not picked up before close of business on October 6, 2019, will be transferred to:
South Independence Branch

After October 7, Library materials that become available and were scheduled to be picked up at the North Independence Branch will also be transferred and available at the South Independence Branch. If you would like your holds transferred to another branch during this renovation, including the Farview Neighborhood Library (18109 E. 12th Street N., Independence, Mo.), please call or visit any MCPL branch and ask a staff member for assistance in redirecting your holds to your desired location.
The North Independence Branch book drop will not be available for use while the branch is closed. Materials can be returned to the South Independence Branch book drop, to the Farview Neighborhood Library during its business hours (Tues. – Sat. 10-6), or any MCPL location not closed for construction.
Storytimes and Book Groups
North Independence Branch customers are invited to attend storytimes at the South Independence Branch or Farview Neighborhood Library until the branch reopens on October 21. For storytime schedules, visit mymcpl.org/storytimes.
North Independence Branch book groups will meet at the Farview Neighborhood Library at their scheduled times.
Programming and Services
During the branch’s closure, North Independence Branch customers are invited to participate in programs at the South Independence Branch and other locations including the Midwest Genealogy Center. Visit mymcpl.org/events for updated program information.
When the branch reopens the Youth Services floor on October 21, computers in the computer lab will be available for public use.
As an MCPL customer, you are invited to attend programs, including storytimes, browse the collection, use public computers, access free Wi-Fi, and use other Library services at all branch locations including the South Independence Branch, the Farview Neighborhood Library, and the Midwest Genealogy Center.
Your New Library Experience Is Coming!
The renovation of this branch is part of the second phase of Mid-Continent Public Library’s Capital Improvement Plan. The Capital Plan is made possible by funds from Proposition L, which was passed by voters in 2016. The architects for all Capital Plan projects are SAPP Design (Springfield, Mo.) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, Mo.), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.
The North Independence Branch will receive the following updates during the renovation:

- Carpet replacement
- New furniture additions
- New public computers
