The Kearney Branch will be temporarily closed for renovations beginning on Monday, November 26. If there is any change in this date, an email will be sent to Kearney customers.
Holds and Returns
Before the closing date, Kearney Branch customers are asked to check out any items you have been notified are available at the Kearney Branch for pickup. Any holds not picked up before the close of business the day prior to the closing date will be transferred to:

After the closing date, Library materials that become available and were scheduled to be picked up at the Kearney Branch will be transferred to and available at the Woodneath Library Center. If you would like your holds assigned to a different branch during this renovation, please call or visit any MCPL branch and ask a staff member for assistance in redirecting your holds to your desired location..
The branch book drop will not be available for use while the branch is closed. Materials can be returned to any MCPL location not closed for construction.
Information will be forthcoming about Storytimes for Kearney customers during the branch’s closure.
Programming and Services
During the branch's closure, some Library programs will be held at the Firehouse Community Center. Visit mymcpl.org/events for updated program information.

As an MCPL customer, you are invited to attend programs (including storytimes) browse the collection, use public computers, access free Wi-Fi, and use other Library services at any branch location including the Woodneath Library Center, the Excelsior Springs Branch, and the Smithville Branch.
Your New Library Experience is Coming!
The renovation of this branch is part of the second phase by Mid-Continent Public Library. This project is part of Library’s capital project made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.
The Kearney Branch will undergo changes during the renovation, including the following:
- New community room
- Enhanced entry with automatic entry doors
- Outdoor seating area
- New paint, carpet, and ceilings
- New updated public computers
- Improved Wi-Fi coverage and access
- Landscape enhancements
