Thursday, July 18, 8:30 a.m.
The public is invited to join branch staff, MCPL leadership, and local officials to “turn the page” in a special rededication ceremony on Thursday, July 18, at 8:30 a.m., starting a new chapter in the history of Kearney Branch. A brief ceremony will be followed by light refreshments. Everyone in attendance will receive a fine forgiveness token worth up to $10 off fines and select fees.
Welcome Back Open House
Saturday, July 20, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Customers are also invited to attend a Welcome Back open house on Saturday, July 20 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. that will include entertainment at 1:00 p.m. by comedian and storyteller Dennis Porter performing “Empty Spaces: Stories to the Stars and Back,” refreshments, and an "I Love My Library" selfie station. A fine forgiveness token will be distributed during branch hours on July 13. Registration is not required for the Welcome Back Open House, but to attend the Dennis Porter program, please register today.
Mobile Scavenger Hunt
July 18 – 26
Adults and kids will have fun getting to know their branch by participating in the Kearney Branch Scavenger Hunt using the free GooseChase app beginning at 8:30 a.m. during the rededication event through Friday, July 26 at 6:00 p.m. Participants can qualify for a $50 gift certificate from El Fuente Mexican Restaurant.
Holds and Returns
- If you received a notification that items you placed on hold were available for pickup at the Woodneath Library Center, those holds were transferred to the Kearney Branch and are available for pick-up.
- If you would like your holds assigned to a different branch, please call or visit any MCPL branch and ask a staff member for assistance in redirecting your holds to your desired location.
- The branch book drop is available for returns as of Monday, June 3.

Programming and Services
Programming has resumed at the Kearney Branch as of Monday, June 3. Visit mymcpl.org/events for updated program information at the branch.
As an MCPL customer, you are invited to attend programs (including storytimes) browse the collection, use public computers, access free Wi-Fi, and use other Library services at any branch location including the Woodneath Library Center, the Excelsior Springs Branch, and the Smithville Branch.

The renovation of this branch is part of the second phase by Mid-Continent Public Library. This project is part of Library’s capital project made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.
The Kearney Branch will undergo changes during the renovation, including the following:
- New community room
- Enhanced entry with automatic entry doors
- Outdoor seating area
- New paint, carpet, and ceilings
- New updated public computers
- Improved Wi-Fi coverage and access
- Landscape enhancements
