Colbern Road Library Center

The Colbern Road Library Center (1000 NE Colbern Road) closed March 15, 2020, to begin construction of a new 33,000-square-foot building on the same site. The new building will reopen to the public as of Wednesday, May 26.

Rededication Ceremony

Friday, June 11 | 8:30 a.m.
The public is invited to join branch staff, MCPL leadership, and local officials to “turn the page” in a rededication ceremony on Friday, June 11, at 8:30 a.m., marking a new chapter in the history of the Colbern Road Library Center. 

Welcome Back Weekend

Friday-Sunday | June 11-13
Customers are invited to visit the branch to explore the new spaces and amenities, including new program and collaboration rooms, a teen space, and Post Coffee Company’s new shop with coffee and treats for sale. 
Customers may pick up a fine forgiveness token worth up to $10 off fines and select fees and can participate in the mobile scavenger hunt using the free GooseChase app that kicks off that weekend (see below for more details).

Colbern Road Library Center Mobile Scavenger Hunt

June 11-20
Adults and kids will have fun getting to know their upgraded branch by participating in the Colbern Road Library Center Scavenger Hunt using the free GooseChase app. The hunt will kick off at 9:00 a.m. during the rededication ceremony and run through Sunday, June 20, at 6:00 p.m. Participants can qualify for one of two $25 gift certificates to Jazzy B’s Diner and Post Coffee Company.

If you had requested materials be sent to the Colbern Road Branch and were notified that the items were available for pick-up at the East Lee's Summit Branch, those holds are being transferred back to the Colbern Road Library Center. You will receive a new notice when your items are ready for pick up at the Colbern Road Library Center. Please check your pick-up notice to see where your hold pick-up location is for your items. The branch book drop is available for returns as of Wednesday, May 26.

Your New Library Experience is Here!

We are pleased to inform you the brand new Colbern Road Library Center will reopen as of Wednesday, May 26. The 33,000 square foot building will be the hub for MCPL’s Square One Small Business Services team and will include: 

  • A new enclosed community room with an operable partition wall that seats up to 240
  • A children’s program room that seats 106
  • 5 smaller collaboration rooms 
  • Co-working space for entrepreneurs and small businesses
  • A teen space
  • A coffee shop

This project is part of Library’s Capital Improvement Plan made possible by funds from Proposition L. The architects are SAPP Design (Springfield, MO) and Helix Architecture and Design, Inc. (Kansas City, MO), and the construction firm for all projects is JE Dunn.
