Kindergarten Readiness

MCPL will provide a ten-week Kindergarten Readiness Series for all Toddler, Preschool, and Family Storytimes this fall. These are designed to promote kindergarten readiness by including practice in the following skills:

  • Reading & Sharing
  • Writing & Creating
  • Talking & Listening
  • Singing & Rhyming
  • Playing & Imagining

MCPL is dedicated to inspiring lifelong reading from an early age by providing a variety of learning opportunities that help parents and caregivers encourage those first steps toward reading. Children who enter school with well-developed early literacy skills have an advantage – they are ready to read.

After you attend the one of the first two weeks of this storytime series, you as the caregiver will receive a survey in your Beanstack account about your children attending storytime. We will also ask that a follow-up survey be filled out on the tenth week, so that we can measure their progress in storytime. Participation in this assessment will help us understand how well we are doing as storytime providers.

Each child that logs attendance for at least eight weeks of the Kindergarten Readiness Series will receive a completion certificate.
