For the past 25 years, Mid-Continent Public Library has recognized Kansas City-area veterans for their service and sacrifice at our Veterans Salute. While this year circumstances keep us from holding the event in-person, we will celebrate area veterans virtually between September 26 and November 11.
Korean War Veterans Video Series
This year’s virtual salute will commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Korean War by featuring a series of interviews with area Korean War veterans sharing their memories and experiences of the war. Along with the veterans’ interviews, we’ll look back at a quarter century of Veterans Salute celebrations. To watch the video series, visit our MCPL360 Facebook page or our YouTube channel.
Veterans Salute Curbside Commemorative Pin Giveaway
An important part of each Veterans Salute is the presentation of special commemorative pins to the veterans in attendance. This year we’re making the pins available to veterans across the MCPL service area. If you are a veteran or have a veteran in your life you would like recognized, you can pick up limited-edition pins at any Mid-Continent Public Library branch between September 26 and November 11. Please follow the curbside pick-up instructions and let the staff know you are there to pick up a Veterans Salute pin. (Pins available while supplies last)
If you are part of a veterans organization, assisted living, or skilled nursing facility and would like a larger number of pins to give to your members or residents, please contact Robert Forster at email@example.com.
Veterans Salute T-shirt and Coffee Mug
This year you can buy a Veterans Salute t-shirt or travel mug of your very own. Just visit our virtual shop at https://mcpl.threadless.com/ to order. Profits from the sale will go to support future Veterans Salute evens.
