Writing stories based on our personal lives can be complicated. In this narrative nonfiction workshop, poet Jen Harris will help participants pinpoint which details tell a story and which ones can be cut. We will then discuss the ethics of writing a story based on a memory, as well as sharing that story with an outside audience. Participants should bring a very simple, reasonably sized object or image, which holds great importance to you. Examples include family photos, yearbooks, coffee mugs, a love letter, baby blanket, a class ring, engagement ring, or wedding band. This class is part of the Written Storytelling Certification Program. It counts as a Writing Elective. Please note: This program will take place in person in The Story Center historic home. Please make sure to register the number of guests in your party. Space is limited.
