As in all art forms, women and those who identify as female are consistently underrepresented. In the literary arts, the works of men are often touted as universal stories; but are they really? In this workshop led by writer and teacher Mary Silwance, we will reimagine literary classics like Lord of the Flies, Lolita, and Of Mice and Men, flipping the script to foreground female experiences and center female voices. Together, we will rewrite a familiar short story through a feminine lens, and then participants will have the opportunity to similarly rewrite other literary staples. This class counts as a Writing Elective for the Written Storytelling Certification Program. Please note this program will take place both in person in The Story Center historic home and virtually via Zoom. Please make sure to choose your format and register the number of guests in your party. Space is limited.
