We will take a close look at examples of the personal essay by authors of varied backgrounds and identities. You will learn how to deconstruct their work to better understand the genre, and then, begin one of your own. Recommended readings include Maureen Stanton, “Laundry;” Michel de Montaigne, “Of the Art of Discussion;” Patricia Hampl, “The Dark Art of Description;” and Philip Lopate, “Introduction to The Art of the Personal Essay.” Program registration will close 30 minutes prior to the start of the program. Participants will be emailed a Zoom access code 30 minutes before the start of the program, so please include your email in the registration. Please note: You must sign into the room prior to the start of the program. Admittance to the classroom will close five minutes after the program's start time. Space is limited.
