More information to come. Do you have videotapes that need preserving? Are there moments in your community or family history captured on tapes you can no longer access? Did you know magnetic media (which includes such formats as VHS, mini DV, Betamax, and Hi8) is at risk of expiration? This Spring, MCPL is partnering with the Roaming Center for Magnetic Alternatives (RCMA) to offer a FREE video digitization service. From home movies and amateur films to political demonstrations and parades, we are searching for a picture of what life was like in the Midwest between 1977 and 2007. In order to preserve these long-forgotten memories, we need community contributions from folks like you before it is too late! Format transfer is performed in real-time while recording an oral history that helps contextualize the video for future generations. All contributors will receive a free hard drive containing their newly digitized video. See how it works and visit roamingcenter.org/submit-content to schedule a 90-minute appointment today!
