In-Person Book Groups Are Back!

In-Person Book Groups Are Back!

March 31, 2022

The first book group I attended (as a naive 20-something) was with a group of fascinating individuals I might never have met, discussing a book I would never have otherwise read. I fell in love with book groups for that very reason.

There’s a particular camaraderie that a book discussion creates amongst a diverse group of readers. There’s the reader who has experienced what the author writes, the reader who never would have viewed the world through this book's particular lens, the reader who never finished the book, the reader who loved the book, and of course, the reader who vocally hated it. All these readers bring something unique and incredible to the table, and all are welcome and valid.

That’s why I feel such joy at saying the following words: MCPL’s in-person book groups are back! If you’ve missed being in the same room with your book buddies, your local Library branch has a book group for you. Check out the Book Group Schedule! And, if you’re interested in starting your own Community Book Group, MCPL can help with that too. You can browse our catalog here: Kit Keeper 1 and Kit Keeper 2 .

If you have enjoyed our Virtual Book Group option as a way to stay connected while curled up in your comfy clothes, not to worry! MCPL is continuing our Virtual Book Groups as well.

Whatever venue you choose, we look forward to expanding our world together! For further details, contact Book Group Services at booktalk@mymcpl.org or 816.521.7259 / 816.503.4164
