Are you new to genealogy, work a full-time job, or have children at home? Are you short on time to do genealogy research? These are just some of the reasons many people have not started their genealogy journey. The Midwest Genealogy Center has a new class you may be interested in called Genealogy Tasks You Can Do in 15 Minutes or Less.
Starting genealogy research can be daunting as you travel many generations back in time. If you don’t have hours to spend on research because of life’s other commitments, the key is to break the tasks into smaller segments. That way, you can do a little each day and still feel like you are accomplishing something.
Even if you are starting out, you can accomplish a lot by taking small steps. For example, on Midwest Genealogy Center’s YouTube channel, we have a short video on Beginning Genealogy. We also have guides to help you with other genealogy topics on our website.
Start small, focusing on just one side of your family. Use Midwest Genealogy Center’s family history forms to keep your work organized. Be consistent when recording information. Cite your sources and embrace any challenges that come up. You will be surprised at what you can accomplish.
Beginners are not the only ones who can benefit from this method, as many advanced genealogists utilize short time periods to research, along with life’s other tasks. Continue learning about new research methods, such as DNA and artificial intelligence (AI), and how these new avenues can expand your research.
Check our Events Calendar for more information on our classes and register for the Genealogy Tasks You Can Do in 15 Minutes or Less class on July 9, 2025.
