Snow In The Heartland

Snow In The Heartland

November 13, 2024

November is creeping solemnly along; there’s a chill in the air, and fall is drawing to a close.

As British poet Edith Sitwell once wrote, “Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

With these words in mind, we invite you to experience the Midwest Genealogy Center’s latest gallery wall exhibition, Snow in the Heartland: A Winter Portrait of the Kansas City Metro. Open from November 8, 2024, through January 31, 2025, Snow in the Heartland delves into the unique beauty and history of Kansas City during the winter months. Through a curated selection of photographs and artifacts from the MGC Archives, this exhibit captures how the city transforms when temperatures drop—from serene snow-covered parks to bustling winter activities and festive holiday lights.

Snow in the Heartland is the latest display on the Gallery Wall at the Midwest Genealogy Center, a space dedicated to showcasing stories of Kansas City and Midwest communities, past and present. Located in MGC’s Conference Center, the gallery wall is available for viewing during MGC’s hours: 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sundays. (Please note that the Conference Center is a reservable venue, and the Gallery Wall may occasionally be closed for private events.)

Through the Gallery Wall at MGC, we aim to highlight the many fascinating corners of the MGC Archives, an archival collection focused on Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties, which includes original documents, photographs, diaries, ledgers, land records, and more.

Visit MGC today and let Snow in the Heartland transport you to a Kansas City that glitters with snow, evoking memories of chilly days, cozy gatherings, and the timeless magic of a Midwestern winter.
