If you are scouting around for something for your kids to do, look no further! The Midwest Genealogy Center has a great new resource that can help. MGC has teamed up with the Heart of America Council of the Boy Scouts of America to add the Genealogy Merit Badge to the online merit badge ScoutConnect series.
Your Scout will need to go to the ScoutConnect website and register for the Genealogy Merit Badge. Then, you will need to watch the video created by MGC, and complete the worksheet. Finally, you will need to connect with a counselor to complete the requirements. MGC has several merit badge counselors that can help your Scout complete their badge. You can contact MGC to connect with one of our merit badge counselors.
Some great resources on the Library’s website can help you complete your requirements. Look for blank family history forms and a virtual tour of MGC. Grab your MCPL Access Pass (Library card) to use the genealogy databases from home to help you find information about your ancestors. Now is a great time to talk to your relatives on the phone and write down what they know about your family.
What did you learn about your family that you didn’t know before? You may be amazed at what you find!
