Customers can now receive their hold and other notices by text.
Recognizing that many people prefer text messages over emails, Mid-Continent Public Library now offers the option to receive notices about holds and due dates by text. Just make sure the phone number associated with your account is one that can receive a text message, and staff can update your account to receive notices by text instead of email. Staff can verify the phone number for you and update your notification style over the phone, the next time you visit a branch, or after you complete a form to update your information from your My Account page.
At this time, you must choose either text or email notifications. The Library does not offer a mix of the two. Also, you can ask that staff change between the two options at any time. MCPL also continues to offer mailed notices, if you would rather receive physical mailed notices. Regular monthly updates from MCPL will continue to be sent by email.
Students from participating local school districts with a student card are not able to change how they receive notifications for activity on their Student Card, but they can also have a regular library card, which could receive notices by text message.
Customers may also reach out to staff for support by text at 816-892-5375. Keep in mind that while staff aim to respond as quickly as possible, the text support service is generally staffed 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and intermittently over the weekends. For an immediate response, please call a branch during regular business hours.
