Publishing Community

Woodneath Press published the first volume of Community Voices in 2020. In line with The Story Center’s mission to empower people to “create,” “share,” and “connect with” stories, our goal with Woodneath Press was to feature the original work of writers who had completed the Storytelling Certificate Program.  We chose the title to reflect that a community includes voices representing a range backgrounds, experiences, and interests, as the twenty original works in the inaugural volume represent.  The title also implies the community of readers who bring their own perspectives, expectations, and reactions.

The Story Center has published Community Voices every summer since 2020, a total of seven volumes containing sixty-five original works of fiction and non-fiction.  The seven volumes represent the Story Center’s commitment to building a community of storytellers, while also functioning as a chronicle of what people are thinking about and imagining at this point in time.

Last month, we published Volume VII, which features the short stories and nonfiction of nine writers.  And we celebrated at the Woodneath historic home with a launch event that has become customary.  As in previous years, some contributors read their work, and some talked about their experiences in the Storytelling Certificate Program, in front of an audience of familiar and new faces, all gathered in support of their authentic and unique voices.
