Online Resources for Learning Outside the Classroom

The Library is closed through March 31, but there is a wealth of resources that you can access from the comfort of home with an internet connection! All you need is your Library card number—don’t have one? No sweat. You can sign up for a Library card online at mymcpl.org/NewCard and immediately get a Library card number to use those digital resources.

In addition, if your child’s school is part of MCPL’s Student Access Pass program, they can use their student ID number as their Library card number. Find out more about this at mymcpl.org/Student.

While kids are out of school, here are a few resources that are an excellent way to keep up the learning:

  • Live Homework Help from Tutor.com
    • Available seven days a week
    • For English and Spanish-speaking students
    • Appropriate for grades K-12
    • LIVE online tutors available from noon to midnight
    • The Skills Center is open 24/7 and offers thousands of worksheets, tutorials, study guides, practice tests, and more
    • This is an awesome resource for kids who may have been assigned homework before school was dismissed, but need a little extra help completing it. The live tutors will actually walk you through the steps of things like solving math problems. You can message the tutors and there is audio as well.
  • Scholastic Teachables
    • Teacher-created lesson plans, activity sheets, and mini-books
      • For those caregivers wanting to set up a temporary homeschool!
    • Pre-K to 6th grade, covering a variety of subjects
  • TumbleBook Library and Tumble Math
    • These two resources are very interactive—excellent for keeping kids engaged
    • TumbleBook Library features animated talking picture books.
    • Tumble Math explains math concepts through animated stories.
  • Mango Languages and MUZZY Online
    • Learn a foreign language!
  • CultureGrams
    • Learn about other countries and cultures.

There are dozens of online Library resources that kids and their caregivers can use to continue learning at home—math, science, reading, social studies, and more! Visit mymcpl.org/Homework to see the full list. For help using these resources, email info@mymcpl.org

I would like to suggest that MCPL look into getting World Almanac database as a resource for patron use. As a school librarian, I believe this resource would be helpful to my students. I do appreciate all the resources MCPL offers to our students. Thank you.
