January 9, 2026
Hello and Happy New Year from The Story Center! We are happy to report we were successful in fulfilling many of last year’s resolutions and are excitedly welcoming 2026 with new goals and progress in mind. The Story Center Collection continues to be one of our biggest ongoing projects, and we hope you’ll be patient with us as we work through each stage of the process. The shelves may look a bit “under construction” as we implement changes throughout the new year!
ReadLOCAL Relocation!
If you have visited Woodneath and The Story Center Collection lately, you may have noticed some empty space where the ReadLOCAL section was previously housed. As of November 2025, instead of the ReadLOCAL collection being housed within The Story Center shelves, you will now see ReadLOCAL titles dispersed throughout all branches in the MCPL system. While we loved having them all under one roof, we felt including them in the general collection increased their accessibility to our community of readers.
If you’re unfamiliar with ReadLOCAL, it is an MCPL initiative that highlights local authors through a collection of books by writers living within the greater MCPL service area. As you browse the shelves at your local branches, you’ll be able to identify these items by the ReadLOCAL sticker on the spine labels.
Are you a local author interested in having your book included in our collection? A donated copy and completed ReadLOCAL submission form can be dropped off at the circulation desk at any MCPL location.
More detailed information can be found by following this link: ReadLOCAL | Mid-Continent Public Library
We hope to see you all celebrating with The Story Center throughout the year as continue to grow and strive to fulfill our mission, “To help people create stories, share those stories, and connect with the stories of others.”
Happy New Year!
