New Look, Better Service: Updated WorldCat Rolls Out April 14

April 14, 2026

MCPL’s InterLibrary Loan team is excited to announce the launch of a new version of WorldCat. The new version will provide a more user-friendly experience for ILL customers. Beginning April 14, WorldCat will have a new look and feel that will offer several improved features, including:

Item images and key data, such as the number of libraries who own the item and item type, are easier to find, making the process of finding the item you want smoother and more convenient.:

Increased communication regarding request status, such as an emailed acknowledgement of request submission, and the ability to check request status in your account:

And improved mobile experience.

Along with these upgrades, the checkout period for ILL items will be extended to three weeks with no renewals

What Else to Expect

While the WorldCat page may look different, the catalog of over 2 billion items worldwide remains the same. Below are a few features that will look different.

You will be asked to authenticate yourself using your Library card number and your password:

Your information will be automatically pulled from your Library account to your request, but you will still need to choose your pick up location:

You can begin your search within the MCPL catalog and follow links into WorldCat if you don’t see what you’re looking for here:

You will receive notifications about your requests, including a notification that your request was received.

We hope you enjoy the new and improved version of WorldCat! If you need any assistance navigating these changes, reach out to your closest branch or send us a message at info@mymcpl.org.
