Music Lovers Rejoice!

woman listening to music

When I moved to Kansas City in 2015 and signed up for a Mid-Continent Public Library card, one of the first (and coolest!) things I learned about the Library was that it offered free music downloads. Yep, you read that right: FREE music! Since then, I’ve downloaded everything from Beethoven to Billy Joel, anime theme songs to classic rock, and Adele to Aerosmith.

Each MCPL cardholder is allowed five free downloads a week plus unlimited streaming through Freegal Music. Not sure what to listen to? Featured on the Freegal homepage are Top Albums, Top Singles, and Featured Artists and Composers. Current popular songs that are available to download include "Praying” by Kesha, “What About Us” by Pink, and “Closer” by The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey.

If classic rock is more your thing, Freegal also has hits by Journey, Aerosmith, and Bruce Springsteen. In the mood for classical? Check out the various recordings of Chopin, Beethoven, and Mozart. The amount of available music is amazing!

Browse the collection today, and don’t forget to use your free downloads! Your allotment resets every Monday at 12:01 a.m.
