There are many reasons to love your local library. And there are many ways to show that appreciation.
To show our appreciation for the customers who use our branches and services in many ways, staff from Mid-Continent Public Library crossed the library district on January 22 to capture in photographs the variety of our branches and the activities that happen in them. Our branches span three counties surrounding Kansas City and includes the home communities of many area residents, and our services range from the traditional storytime services for early literacy offered in libraries across the nation to unique services like the Culinary Kitchens and the Story Center.
We started the day at the Grain Valley branch with photos at dawn.
Even before the branches open, customer activity began at local book drops.
Throughout the area, construction on roads, wastewater systems, and sidewalks has been ever present.
Overnight, staff at Blue Ridge branch hosted a few stuffed animal guests for a sleepover and prepared for a special storytime with their owners.
As soon as the branch opens, Blue Ridge staff were ready to greet and assist customers.
Staff at the Culinary Kitchens offered customers a break from the cold and a taste of congee, a Chinese rice porridge.
Many customers took the opportunity to slow down, relax, and enjoy a savory treat.
Customers at the North Oak branch, as in many MCPL locations, used the technology services available.
Beyond technology and books, many customers also enjoyed community puzzles, like this couple at Antioch.
Customers at Edgerton branch heard an enchanting tale and got active during an enchanted tea party.
Dusk settled at the Woodneath Library Center and the Story Center.
Library activities continued into the night at the East Lee’s Summit branch.
