MCPL Launches New Mobile App!

Published on Wed, 06/12/2019 - 01:45am
MCPL's new app

You can now find the new Mid-Continent Public Library app in Apple's App Store and the Android Google Play Store!

The new app will let you access all of your favorite parts of the MCPL website. You can manage your account (checkouts, holds, and fees), find your nearest Library branch, browse upcoming events, access our digital materials, and more!

Here is a quick walk-through of the new app:

Online Catalog

You can search our entire collection from the main page of the app! No need to go looking for the search—we put it front and center. After you search for something, you can choose whether you want to see physical items or digital. You can also use the "Search by" and "Filter by" options to narrow your results to find exactly what you're looking for.

My Account

The My Account section is your one-stop shop to manage all aspects of your Library account! You can view your bookshelf (items you have checked out), manage your holds, find your Library card number, and use your eCard—a digital version of your Library card. No more worrying about forgetting your physical Library card because you have it on your phone!

Locations

No matter where you are located, you can use the new MCPL app to find the MCPL branch nearest to you! You'll find the opening hours, phone number, directions, and more for all of our locations.

Events

Looking for an event at the Library? Look no further! You can find upcoming events and browse by date and branch. Add events to your mobile calendar, and share them on social media too!

eMedia

You will have easy access to all of our digital content including eBooks, eAudiobooks, eMusic, eMagazines, and eMovies! Many of our online resources have apps available to make your experience even easier.

Scan an ISBN

Have you ever found a book and wanted to see if it was available at the Library? With the ISBN scanner, you can quickly check to see if we have the book in stock. Whether you are at a bookstore or a friend's house, you can find books with ease!

Download the app today for your iOS or Android device! Have questions about the new app? Stop by your local MCPL branch, and a staff member will assist you.

I do love the new app! But found a few things may need fixing. The ecard won’t turn vertically so it can be used at a self checkout. When looking at my holds list , it is in order by the date of when I put them on hold instead of when they are likely to come in. Lastly, the new Farview Branch is not on the list of branches and you can’t change to have your holds transferred there. I know you can through the website but not the app.

Hello Sharan, thanks for your comments. The new Farview Neighborhood Library has been added to the app. The other issues you brought up have been passed on to the app developers to see if they can be incorporated into the app.

Thanks,
Andrew M.

It might be handy to know the name of the app to search for. The links to the stores don't go directly to the app.

I have updated the links so that they will go directly to the app in the store. The app is named Mid-Continent Public Library. Thanks for your comment!

When a customer displays the "ecard" on the New App, the card is displayed vertically. Most phones are too large to use this card at the self-checkout. Can the app be updated to display the card horizontally and near the top of the screen so it can be used at the self-checkout?

Thank you for your comment! We have had several staff members report this issue as well. We are working with our app developers to see if we can incorporate this into the app.

Thanks,

Will the new Mcpl app replace overdrive/libby?

Hello! The new Mymcpl app will not replace the OverDrive and Libby apps. You will still want to use those apps for your ebook and eaudiobooks.

It worked well for me for a couple of days. The last three times I've tried to use it, it has given me the message "sorry something went wrong the requested data could not be found retry cancel" I have tried both options, going out and back in, and waiting for a day.

I downloaded and it just sits and spins under 'latest releases'. It will immediately give error msg and darken my screen to black to which I then need to hit cancel nearly 10 times in order to get screen to return. I then tried to access 'my account' to sign in and get an error 'sorry, something went wrong - unable to acquire session with server'. Then it darkens my screen, then gives error of 'unauthorized'. Nothing appears to work! My signon is correct......I have verified it several times but does not seem to recognize it no matter how many times I try. This might explain why it is receiving only 2 stars as it appears to have been rolled out to the public prematurely. Any suggestions on how to make it work on my Iphone 7 using IOS 12.3.1

Can the "for later" shelf be added to the app? This is only available on the website, but it would be nice to be able to see my lists of "for later" items on the app while I am in the branch. Thanks.

I was notified than one of my ebooks is ready for checkout, but when I go into my app, the only option for the item is cancel. How do I check it out?
Thank you!

Hello! When you get a notification that your ebook is available, you will want to open up your Libby or OverDrive app to download the book. Alternatively, you may go directly to our OverDrive website (https://mcpl.overdrive.com/) to check the book out there as well.

For device specific help, you may wish to check out our ebooks troubleshooting page (https://www.mymcpl.org/books-movies-music/go-digital/ebooks/overdrive-help).

Of course, you can reach out to use directly either through your library branch (https://www.mymcpl.org/locations), or at info@mymcpl.org. We would be happy to assist you.
