LitUp 2019 Registration Is Now Open!

Jacqueline Woodson

We have some extremely exciting news to share today—LitUp 2019 is officially open for registration! Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to meet some of the coolest, most talented, most successful authors and artists working today. They’ve written bestselling books, won national awards, had their books made into movies, and written their own movies, plays, and documentaries. They’ve created beautiful, powerful art, viral video games, and unforgettable poems, graphic novels, and rap songs. And they’re all coming to LitUp 2019!

This year, our keynote speakers are two of the best-known and most-loved writers in the world of young adult literature: Jacqueline Woodson and Gayle Forman! Jacqueline Woodson has written more than two dozen award-winning books, including Brown Girl Dreaming, which was not only a New York Times bestseller but won the National Book Award. Woodson has also won the Newbery Award (three times!), the Coretta Scott King Award, the NAACP Image Award, and the Sibert Honor Award.

Gayle Forman is the New York Times bestselling author of If I Stay, which was made into a blockbuster movie starring Chloë Grace Moretz and has been translated into more than 40 different languages! Forman has written many other bestselling novels as well as articles for some of the most prestigious publications―from The New York Times to Elle to Time Magazine.

But LitUp isn’t just about listening to authors and artists talk about their work and having the chance to ask them questions—although that in itself is amazing—it’s also about working on your own art. At LitUp 2019, we’ll have poetry and art workshops, a poetry slam, origami and black-out poetry stations, and awards and recognition for the winners of the LitUp 2019 Creative Contest. We’ll also have free food all day, and best of all―free books!

All you have to do to attend this amazing, all-day, totally free festival is register and then come to LitUp 2019 on May 4 at MCPL’s North Independence Branch.

Can’t wait to see you there!
