Branches & Bytes: Exploring AI in Genealogy with Steve Little and Mark Thompson

March 30, 2026

The Midwest Genealogy Center’s annual Spring Seminar is set for 2026! Registration for Branches & Bytes: Exploring AI in Genealogy with Steve Little and Mark Thompson is currently open, so mark your calendars for Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Join the Midwest Genealogy Center for a full day of seminars led by Mark Thompson and Steve Little, co-hosts of the Family History AI Show podcast.  This engaging seminar will help cut through the confusion and show you how to use AI tools to become a better researcher and storyteller.

Over the course of the day four different sessions will walk you through what AI is and how it can knock down brick walls and track down those elusive ancestors. The first session starts with the AI basics – no technical background required! Session two will show you techniques for using AI to create a cohesive narrative for your genealogy research. We all have piles of records on our desks and stories in our heads, but we’re not always sure how to turn it into a clear and engaging story. AI can act as your personal writing coach and be a quick fix for grammar along the way. After lunch, Session Three is all about using AI to help spot patterns you might have missed and suggests new directions when you hit those brick walls, but also pointing out where your research judgement remains essential. Finally, Session Four shows you how to take old family photos and use AI to assist you in learning more about the who, what, when and where of those images.

Included in the $40 ticket price is a continental breakfast when you arrive, a buffet lunch after Session Two, and the chance to win one of our door prize drawings!

The door prize drawings include giving away two Story Books from Storied.com, a FamilyTree Magazine subscription, a MyHeritage 1 year subscription and more!

The last day for all registrations and payments is Monday, April 13, 2026 by 5:00 p.m. CT. We hope that you can join us!
