Mid-Continent Public Library, the Community Services League, and the Fort Osage School District will host a block party in celebration of the recent opening of Farview Neighborhood Library and Food Pantry (18109 E 12th St N, Independence, MO 64056) on Saturday, August 17, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Farview Block Party will kick off with remarks from local officials followed by a free tailgate lunch from Hy-Vee, courtesy of Central Bank of the Midwest, live DJ music, and a variety of family-friendly activities, including sidewalk chalk, button-making, a balloon artist, and a face painter. The Library's Reading Rocket will also be on hand, offering storytimes throughout the event.
In addition to activities, numerous community resource organizations will be present with information about their services. Central Bank will have a table on financial literacy, and the Boys and Girls Club will provide information about their organization and how kids can get involved. Representatives from the Community Services League will be giving tours of the Farview Food Pantry and offering information on their other services. They will also accept pantry donations during the party.
In partnership with the Fort Osage School District, Mid-Continent Public Library and the Community Services League opened the joint service location in Eastern Independence in June as a way to better serve area residents. Located in the school’s former early childhood center, the Farview Neighborhood Library is open to the public Tuesday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and the food pantry is open on Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The Library offers customers access to all of MCPL’s traditional resources and services, including public computers and Wi-Fi, collaboration rooms, a small collection of books and other items, and educational programs such as storytimes.
Residents interested in attending the Farview Block Party & Opening Celebration are encouraged to register on the Library’s website.
