With rubber gloves, a shower cap (to protect me from spiders), a roll of garbage bin liners, and an organizer full of cleaning products, I was ready to tackle and clean under the stairs―the void that my husband and I purposely forget is there.
There were bags and boxes of clothes, which frankly, I have no idea why I kept. Did I think I could morph back to my weight when I was in my 20s? Not just that, did I think that my ’90s and early ’00s attire would suddenly become trendy again? There were also tins of old paint and decades-old Christmas decorations that I was determined to either throw out or bag up for the thrift store.
Then, a mammoth collection of VHS tapes caught my attention. As I pulled out each tape, the completely irrelevant phrase “Be kind, rewind” stared back at me. We no longer have a VHS player, but these movies were a sentimental affection from the past, and nostalgia hit me right in the gut. “Be kind, rewind.”
What could we do? We couldn’t replace them all. Truthfully, did we want to? As we toyed with what to do, the answer was staring me right in the face! My multi-use Library card had suddenly become a movie Access Pass too! I could check out all these beloved movies from the past on DVD (or stream them) through the Library.
So, if you’re looking to watch a few of your favorite retro flicks, pop some popcorn and have a look through MCPL’s catalog of movies. You’ll get to “relive the magic of the movies” without spending a dime!
