The Council for Advancement of Adult Literacy (CAAL) is a national nonprofit public charity. Its mission is to help advance adult education and literacy in the United States – to move adult literacy out of the shadows into the mainstream of American education, as required by the nation’s 21st century needs.
NCFL was established in 1989 and has pioneered educational initiatives that open pathways for continuous life improvement for the nation's most at-risk children and families.
The mission of the National Coalition for Literacy (NCL) is to advance adult education, family literacy, and English language acquisition in the U.S. by increasing public awareness for the need to increase funding and programs; promoting effective public policy; and serving as an authoritative resource for the field on national adult education issues.
"NIFL was created as a part of the 1991 Literacy Act by a bipartisan Congressional coalition to be the hub of national literacy efforts. By serving as a resource for the literacy community, the Institute assists in addressing urgent national priorities -- upgrading the workforce, reducing welfare dependency, raising the standard of living, and creating safer communities."
"Proliteracy.org is a nonprofit educational corporation that sponsors educational programs and services to empower adults and their families by assisting them to acquire the literacy practices and skills they need to function more effectively in their daily lives and participate in the transformation of their societies."
