Let Your Imagination Soar!

Imaginations are important. The library is a great place for kids to dream and open up new worlds. You never know what they might dream up next.

Click, Click, Click, Went the Keyboard . . .

We often have discussions about "The Good Ol’ Days" here at the Library. Our branch has a nice mix of older people and younger people, and this can lead to some great intergenerational conversations. Just the other day, I asked one of our bright, knowledgeable Pages if she had ever heard of Betamax before. Nope. Finally, we gave her the HD Blu-ray format war analogy to help her understand the Great VHS-Beta Debate of the 80s. Technology has helped us in many ways, and as I use the word "technology," my thoughts turn to memories of a high school history teacher.

Summer Thrills

So, I’m driving to work. I’m not late or really in a hurry, but I’m on the highway, and I want to go fast. I want to not be on the highway anymore and just be at work (well, I’d probably rather be at Disneyland but you get the point) when I see those red and blue lights flashing behind me. I spot them in the rear view mirror just as I change lanes. My heart starts beating faster. My palms get cold as I can feel slight perspiration on my forehead all while my stomach feels like its knotting up. And then I notice the police car getting closer to me, right behind me.

Is It Summer Yet?

I love summer. I love taking picnics up to Smithville Lake. I love going for hikes in Weston Bend State Park. I love HOT weather. I love going for runs in the afternoon sun, catching a few not-good-for me rays. It’s June and the Summer Reading Program has started, so where is my hot weather?
