The MCPL Weston Branch is using their expansive display areas as an art gallery for some very important artists. During the school year, we will be displaying West Platte Elementary art projects on a rotating basis. Thanks to the cooperation of the art teacher, Peggy Bennett, the library will be supplied with color and fun. Right now we are showing art from the 3rd Graders and more art is waiting in the wings.
Stop by and take a look at these masterpieces. Who knows, there may be a Rembrandt in the making.
Fall is almost upon us. As everyone in Weston knows, the first Saturday in October is Applefest! There will be parades, apple cider, apple butter making, and hay baling. Shops downtown are decorated for the season, and will be busy. I hope everyone comes out to see the parade because the Book Cart Drill Team will show off their Book cart moves.
Really, when you think about it, the library has been on the cutting edge of renew, recycle, and reuse since its inception. What do we do here at the library but just that? It's been our policy, here at MCPL, to encourage customers to borrow a book, read that book, and return it for further use since 1965.
The pristine vista that is the Weston Branch's lawn was marred today by the appearance of an extremely (unearthly???) large toadstool. To show just how big this toadstool is, we have placed a llama beside it for comparison. See above photo. (Photo disclaimer: not real llama)
The month of August is being spent planning storytimes for the coming months. In July, our storytimes at the Weston Branch were about watermelons, picnics, ladybugs, and other kinds of bugs. Coming to our storytimes in September will be nursery rhymes and two weeks of sheep! We will read about snoring sheep, green sheep, black sheep, brave sheep, and lost sheep.
Please join us at the Weston Branch on Wednesday, September 7th, at 10:00 a.m., for our first sheep storytime. There will be lots of sleepy sheep!
Last week, I was sitting at home and reading in my favorite chair: a blue leather (yes, this cow was a rare blue cow) recliner, feet up, and dog jockeying for her place. It made me wonder, "what are my coworkers favorite places to sit back and open up a book?" So, I took a survey. Simple questions- "When you read at home, where is your favorite place to read? And why?"
I got some simple answers, and I got some not so simple answers. But, it was fun to read. So here are the answers, without names. I promised not to publish the names.
Pagemasters was all wet for the month of July. Ms. Layton had the Pagemasters gang read Summer Fun by Larry Dane Brimner. They also had a water gun fight...but not in the library :).
My yard is full of toads. At night, you have to step carefully to avoid squashing the little rascals. The last time I noticed this many toads was the summer of 1993 when we had the last major flood. I'm sure they are looking for higher, drier ground! There are many sizes and colors to look at.
Beginning July 1st, the MCPL Weston Branch will no longer be open on Thursday nights. All other days of the week will remain the same: Monday 9am-9pm, Tuesday thru Friday 9am-6pm, Saturday 9am-5pm, and closed on Sunday. With this change on Thursdays, Pagemasters will now be on the 2nd Monday of every month at 7 p.m. There is no change to our storytime. It will still be on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. We will have a new Storytime Leader, Lynn Collison.
If you have any questions about this change or want to know about upcoming library programs, come in or call us at 816-640-2874.
