The Real Batman?

I was waking up this morning over a hot cup of cinammon roll cappuccino when I thought I would stop by the old NPR website to see what was happening. There I found a link to a story about Batman and the good work he is doing. He isn't fighting crime; he's bringing joy to boys and girls who need it.

Dr. Seuss Storytime

Our Weston storytime kids will be celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday two days early! At our regular storytime on Wednesday, February 29, we will be reading some of the Dr. Seuss classics and having a drawing for a copy of The Lorax. The fun will begin at 10:00 a.m.  It will be a rhyming good time!

Homemade Hats!

Our storytime kids had a great time making hats from newspapers and then decorating them. They were so proud of them that they even agreed to pose for this picture! Our books centered on hats blowing away, so as they left the building, they were holding on to theirs with all their might. I am happy to report they all made it safely to their vehicles with the hats on their heads.

Decking the Halls

Have you finished decorating for Christmas? You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their Christmas tree. There are those whose efforts look like something out of a decorator’s magazine, and those that are obviously a project for the whole family. Neither is true at our house. I put up at least two full-sized trees (artificial, since I’m allergic to the real ones) each year, mostly by myself.

Ho! Ho! Holiday Storytime!

It’s that time of year again! We thought it was never going to get here! What time of year am I talking about? Well, Christmas Time of course! Here at the Weston Branch, we are extremely happy that December has arrived. Yule logs, hot cider, Christmas trees, presents….we have been waiting on it all. You would think we would be satisfied with all of this, but we are not. No, we had to have more to make this holiday season very special.

What Middletown Read

While renovating the Muncie (Indiana) Public Library, ledger books were found that contained records on what the Muncie patrons checked out from 1891-1902. Ball State University, along with the Muncie County Library, collaborated in a project to set up a database with these records. It’s a fun and interesting exploration in our reading habits and our past. We thought it would be fun to share it with you. Enjoy!

LEGO Mania!

My husband and I have what I thought was a very unique hobby. As recent empty-nesters, we were looking for something to do last winter, and rediscovered a shared passion – LEGO. What I didn’t realize is that we’re far from alone. The classic building toy for kids is becoming increasingly more popular among adults. Originally designed in Denmark in the 1940s, LEGO (which means "play well") has an international appeal and includes movies, games, video games, competitions, and themed amusement parks.
