I recently had the opportunity to do some traveling with my husband for work. Like any good MCPL employee or customer, I used resources found in our Library to turn our trips into memorable vacations.
My cousin Cheryl recently came from Chicago to visit me for two weeks. We grew up together, but I hadn’t seen her for about four years. We had a great time looking at family pictures and going to visit family and friends. Some of our time was spent trying new recipes and cooking together, as well as going out to eat!
Even though we talk on the phone a lot, I’m really looking forward to our next visit. Here are some of the newest cookbooks Weston Branch has to offer. Grab a family member, one of these books, and make your own cooking memories!
We have a new addition to our storytime area! It is an educational computer for children ages 2-10 called an Early Literacy Station. There are lots of great programs for kids to learn from such as Dora's World Adventure, Krazy Art Room, and Tux Paint.
What Was That Book? My Journey to Find 2 Childhood Books, Lost in My Memory
We all have them; books that spoke to us as children. Or at least, we have ones that we read over and over again. I had two books that I read so many times you would have thought I would have had them memorized. They were located in my elementary school library, run by my school librarian Ms. Baker. You would think after reading these books so many times, there would have been no possible way for me to forget their titles. Forget them I did, for more years than I should count.
Join us on Thursday, June 7 at 10:00 a.m. for the program Pet Suitcase. Pet Suitcase teaches compassion while helping children learn how to care for a pet. Children will take turns pulling items from a "pet’s suitcase" and identifying them. One of the program’s teachers will be a friendly certified companion animal. We really want to see you, so come to the library!
Here are the top 10 most read books in the world, according to squidoo.com. These are based on the number of books printed and sold over the last fifty years. Which ones have you read? Here at our branch, we are passing around the list. Most of us have read 6 or 7 of these titles. If you notice, 3 of these are series (7 books in Harry Potter!). So, here's your chance to see what you have read. And maybe, like me, you will order a book or two.
One of our subs is being taken on an Alaskan cruise for her anniversary. While we will miss her when she is gone, most of us will miss getting to go on a cruise more. To "help" with the pain, Cindy L. has done a huge cruise display for the branch.
This Wednesday, May 2, our storytime will feature books and activities about chickens. Rumor has it; we are going to learn how to do the Chicken Dance.
The buzz around the Weston Branch is "Spring has sprung." The trees in front of the library have bloomed and the bees are happy. Take the time and smell the flowers, but be careful that you don’t sniff a bee.
