Road Closure to Affect Access to the Riverside Branch
The Vivion Road bridge over Line Creek is scheduled to close on July 30, 2012 for approximately 60 days for road work. This bridge is immediately east of the Riverside Branch, and will affect our customers coming from areas east of the Library.
Please take a look at the detour suggested by the City of Riverside. We still look forward to seeing all of our customers during the time of the detour.
I just returned from a loooong road trip (26 hours from KC to Maine). I had checked out a couple of audiobooks on CD that I thought my twelve year-old son would enjoy to help pass the time.
It's a sad fact that over 50% of marriages in the United States today end in divorce. Here at the Library, we get many requests for resources for families going through this process.
On Monday, July 16, 2013, the Riverside Branch is offering Preparing for Divorce, a program for anyone looking for more information on this topic.
It seems like you can’t go anywhere lately without seeing that angry red bird. Words like "golden eggs," "pigs," and "reverse shot" are tossed around as kids, teens, and adults stare down at their mobile devices tapping away at the screen. So what is this new phenomenon everyone is talking about? It’s called Angry Birds, an online game that has caused frenzy worldwide.
I really love the Summer Reading Program that MCPL offers. I’m sure you think this has to do with the fact that I’m a Library employee. Mostly, it's because I’m the storytime lady at our branch. These are definitely contributing factors. And, of course, I love my job and love seeing kids enjoy reading. The real reason I love the Summer Reading Program dates back almost 30 years ago.
If you’ve read The Hunger Games, you know that quote. I did not know how hooked I’d get on this series of books. I tried to avoid the hype and wait until it died down. But, I saw a copy at my local Walmart and had to buy it. I was pulled in, and I didn’t want to put the book down.
I don’t know how I stumbled upon this love of Indian authors. Maybe, it is because I love Indian food. Maybe, it's because I think saris are so beautiful. I am a self-confessed foodie, but I don’t see myself cooking Indian food in the near future. The colors on every sari that I have seen have been overwhelmingly beautiful, but I doubt that one will ever be hanging in my closet.
Now that the weather is getting really nice, it’s time to tackle some outdoor projects. Let the Riverside Branch help you! We've got a display for the month of June with lots of projects to tackle. We’ve got books with lots of how-to’s on building decks, creating a new patio, building a tree house for the kids or grandkids, making your own patio furniture and outdoor structures, and much, much more.
Many of you who have visited the Riverside Branch probably have seen our very large, but sadly nameless bear. We love our bear, and as Sarah H. wrote to us: "He has an appetite for reading. He likes to paw through a good book. He is a beary good reader, perusing both short tails and long tales."
I don’t really know if there is a support group for foodaholics, but I don’t think I’d join one even if such a thing existed. I’m a foodie, and I admit my addiction. If the first step in conquering your addiction is admitting you have a problem, I guess I’m not there yet.
