As the resident foodie at the Riverside Branch, I’ve come to really enjoy all of the cooking programs and the wonderful assortment of new cookbooks we have. Just this week, I presented my first cooking program, Italian Night at the Library. I prepared one of my favorite Italian entrees, and I think everyone attending had a good time.
Have you ever wanted to join a book club, but the meeting time didn’t fit your schedule? Well, the Riverside Branch has a book club that meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. We’re a small group, but very welcoming to newcomers.
I’d like to share with you a passion of mine—Alfred Hitchcock movies! I think the first one I ever watched was Rear Window. I was in college and a girlfriend and I went to see it on what must have been dollar movie night. In case you’re one of those who have not seen the movie, I won’t give the plot away, but you need to know that the villain of the piece is Lars Thorwald.
Our New Bridge Will Open Sooner Rather Than Later!
I’m sure many of you have noticed the rather inconvenient detour to the east of the Riverside Branch. I’ve actually enjoyed watching the progress of construction on my lunch hour every day. Well, I found out today that the project will be finishing earlier than scheduled. Our tentative date for the opening of the new bridge is October 10! Although I will miss my lunchtime entertainment, won’t it be nice for our customer to have a safe new bridge that actually has sidewalks!
Don’t you just love this time of year? After our miserable summer, the days are just wonderful, and I love being able to sleep with an open window. And, September in Riverside means Riverfest!
You may not realize, but your local librarians are very multi-talented. In fact, many of us spend our weekends participating in the MCPL Book Cart Drill Team, marching in many area parades. This past weekend, we practiced our formations and marched in the Riverside parade. I guess I’m not that talented, because I just carried the MCPL banner and waved.
If you are a regular reader of the Riverside Branch’s blog, you may realize that I am the foodaholic. I check out almost every new cookbook that MCPL purchases. I’ve also recommended a few of my favorites in a previous blog. Did you have a chance to read them? Which recipes did you make?
Believe it or not, it’s been awhile since I blogged about a book I’ve been reading. A librarian that doesn’t blog about books? Well, this one was so good that I have to tell someone about it.
As promised at the beginning of the Summer Reading Program, we at the Riverside Branch conducted a name-the-bear contest. Well, all of the votes are in, and the name of the bear is:
BUDDY!
Be sure to stop by and say Hi to Buddy! And thanks to Zachary W. for his nomination!
We just found out that our Vivion Road bridge closure has been pushed back by a couple of weeks, or until sometime in mid-August. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific. So, if you come to the Riverside Branch from the East bearing books, be prepared for a detour.
