Our regular Riverside Branch customers may notice a few changes the next time you visit us. We are reconfiguring our circulation desk in order to improve customer service and increase efficiency. To that end, our circulation desk has totally disappeared! Never fear, we are still available at a temporary desk in order to serve our customers.
If you’ve read a few of my blogs, you may have noticed that I can be a little frugal. Over the past few years, I’ve come to appreciate thrift stores, ferreting out the best happy hours in town, and discovering the joys of upcycling on Pinterest. Well, there is an upcoming program at the Riverside Branch that’s right up my alley.
Last night, while my husband and I were sitting in our favorite Zona Rosa BBQ joint, the discussion turned to music. Hubby asked about the results of my two Beatles surveys; I tallied the results as soon as I got to the Library today.
We’ve got a new display at the Riverside Branch that is generating a lot of interest – Blind Date with a Book. It’s got a selection of books gift-wrapped, but you don’t find out what’s inside until after you’ve checked it out! It was a lot of fun putting it together, so please stop by for a blind date.
If You Were Trapped on a Desert Island and Could Only Listen to One Band Forever, Who Would It Be?
This was the question my husband asked me last night while we split a bottle of wine at our favorite Zona Rosa BBQ restaurant. They were playing a particularly good channel of classic rock while we devoured our ribs and burnt ends. He was torn between Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin -- his ultimate choice was Pink Floyd. I don't see how we ever got married, because, between those two choices, I would have chosen the opposite.
Well, it’s happened again. I’ve got too many books to read at the same time! I guess it’s going to happen once in a while when you’ve got 75 items on hold, as I do right now. Now, many of those holds are for feature films, items not released yet from the publisher, and cookbooks (which really don’t take me too long to read). I just have too many good customers that recommend great new authors that I just don’t have time to read them all.
Well, we just finished our first crafty program for the year here a Riverside, and it went very well, if I do say so myself. One night I was doing my usual surfing of Pinterest, when I came across a pin on how to make your own eBook reader case. I really disliked the covers that I saw in the store for my Kindle, much less the ridiculous prices that were being charged. So I decided to make my own. The first one was my trial and error case, and it turned out pretty well, but there was room for improvement.
It’s that time of year when new eBook readers seem to come out of the woodwork. Many people still don’t know that you can borrow eBook titles in addition to print materials. Best of all, they’re FREE! If you’ve been reading my blogs, you know how much I love a freebie.
One of the perks of working in a library is being able to discover new authors sooner than most others. Many times I hear about these new authors from our customers. I have gotten many referrals from customers over the years for which I am very grateful.
Several months ago, we asked for help from our Riverside customers to build a surprise for our younger visitors. Well, it is finally finished. And thank you to all who faithfully brought us your empty milk jugs! I’m sure that the children in Riverside will all enjoy our new addition.
