Ok, I’ll admit it: I started working at the Library to feed my book addiction. I literally squeal with glee when a new book has come in by a favorite author or genre. (Literally! I’ve startled several of my coworkers with a sudden loud "SQUEE!!!" several times just this month!) When I’m not working, most of the time you can find me at home reading or at the local bookstore scoping out the new young adult and juvenile books. Sadly, I cannot bring every single book home that looks like an interesting read; but thankfully the Library is there to save the day!
Celebrating Multi-Cultural Diversity in the Library!
Opportunities seem to present themselves over and over to me on reaching out, celebrating, and embracing the multicultural diversity of customers that frequent our branch. Having lived in the Kansas City area most of my life, I have become familiar with quite a number of cultures and traditions over the years. I love that we are a public library system that does its very best to reach out to all ages, races, and ethnicities! In our ever-changing melting pot of represented cultures, I have come face-to-face with some interesting situations and customs.
A few months ago, I wrote a blog about Zumba. It is a Latin-based dance fitness craze that is sweeping the nation. I have been going to classes pretty much weekly for about a year now, and I wanted to check-in and update how things are going.

I loved watching martial arts movies as kid growing up, which is probably one reason why I have read several YA books based in Japan with a martial arts theme. This story is about an American teen as an exchange student to Japan, who is having a hard time fitting in because of the language barrier and cultural differences. He's just an exchange student going to school in a different country; he doesn't set out to learn martial arts or to be a samurai. He is accidentally killed trying to protect someone during a ritual and then brought back to life/possesse
I'm sure all of us have a few books that we remember from our childhood. For me, they are the books that my grandma read to me when I was a little girl. Grandma and Grandpa always kept a stash of children's books at their house. It was one of the things that remained steady throughout the years, and I could always count on a few books being present.
Are you a nobody? The person who is unnoticed by everyone? Do people bump into you because they don't even know you are there? But how can they not see you!?!? No matter how big or small the group, no one seems to notice you or want to include you in the conversation. Are you trying not be noticed? Or, are you trying to be noticed? It doesn't matter what you do, no one seems to know you exist. So, a perfect job for you would be an assassin since no one notices a nobody.
With all of the crazy snow we had last week, I got to thinking about my house. We just bought it, and to be honest, I was not sure if it was insulated properly or if there was anything as a new home owner that I could do to make it better. When we moved in, our house inspector said everything major was covered, but I thought there must be something I can do to help keep the heat in and the winter out!
This is a great story for sports-minded girls, especially if they live to play softball. The storyline basically seeks to explore life perspectives of teens. What if your "Plan A" changes? What are you going to do now? For instance, if you are stuck in another world different from the real world, how in the world do you get back to the real world?!?!?!?!?

My hubby has worked very hard to lose 30 lbs. One of the new lifestyle changes he has made is to have a smoothie for breakfast. Well, our second blender (in 6 months) bit the dust.
