If you are familiar with Joss Whedon’s catalog of work, Nathan Fillion is singing that very song to you right now. Before he graced the small screen as Castle, Fillion portrayed the hero we loved to hate, Captain Hammer, in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-along Blog. In fact, the sequel starts filming this summer, too!
The sun is out. The rain is stopping. It’s time to pedal. The hardcore riders may pedal all year round, but now it is the season for anybody that likes to ride their bike. One, two, three, or four wheels; one speed to 27; on the pavement or in the dirt; the bicycle is an incredible way to enjoy warm days.
Oh no! You just finished a thrilling Theodore Boone book, The Accused, and you realize that there are some details missing. Well, it turns out that it is deep in the series. How on earth can you discover the first book, and then read the others in order? Look no further than the MCPL website.
Sunday evening, I attended a free event at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I didn’t know what it was about. All I knew was the title, Quixotic Fusion. Since Kansas City had such beautiful weather on Sunday, I didn’t even bother to look it up; I didn’t care as long as it was outside.
My husband is not a reader. In fact, before I started working at the Library (just over a year now), he never read anything except the directions on new gadgets and gizmos we got for Christmas. He is incredibly intelligent, but a bit dyslexic and finds reading to be anything but pleasurable. As an avid reader, I always just chalked this up to an idiosyncrasy about him that, while I didn't fully understand, I could certainly live with.
Do you like to read recipes? Do you like to cook, bake, and enjoy yummy food? I like doing both. Lately, I have enjoyed the Gooseberry Patch books, Simple Shortcut Recipes and 5 Ingredient Family Favorites. Never had I really enjoyed cooking or baking until I found Gooseberry Patch.
What could happen if the Queen of England, Elizabeth, decided to leave one afternoon to have a solo adventure?! This charming book addresses just that! Her staff goes on a frantic dash to find her while she takes the evening train to one of her favorite spots, Scotland.
Ok, I’ll admit it: I started working at the Library to feed my book addiction. I literally squeal with glee when a new book has come in by a favorite author or genre. (Literally! I’ve startled several of my coworkers with a sudden loud "SQUEE!!!" several times just this month!) When I’m not working, most of the time you can find me at home reading or at the local bookstore scoping out the new young adult and juvenile books. Sadly, I cannot bring every single book home that looks like an interesting read; but thankfully the Library is there to save the day!
Celebrating Multi-Cultural Diversity in the Library!
Opportunities seem to present themselves over and over to me on reaching out, celebrating, and embracing the multicultural diversity of customers that frequent our branch. Having lived in the Kansas City area most of my life, I have become familiar with quite a number of cultures and traditions over the years. I love that we are a public library system that does its very best to reach out to all ages, races, and ethnicities! In our ever-changing melting pot of represented cultures, I have come face-to-face with some interesting situations and customs.
A few months ago, I wrote a blog about Zumba. It is a Latin-based dance fitness craze that is sweeping the nation. I have been going to classes pretty much weekly for about a year now, and I wanted to check-in and update how things are going.
