So you've probably figured out from my last blog that I like funny stuff and television. Put the two together and what do you get? I Love Lucy (thought I was gonna say funny television, didn't you)! Hey, folks, that's the funniest television show ever in my opinion. I watched many sitcoms growing up, but old reruns were my favorite. And out of those old reruns, Lucy was my all- time favorite and still is. I never get tired of watching that show, even though I've seen every episode numerous times and can recite the lines along with the actors!
Do you have a favorite book (or books) that has impacted your life? A book you reread, one that remains on your shelf, or in your memory as a constant companion? I do. And so does Tiki Barber, Kirk Douglas, and Steve Forbes.
I had to smile the other day when I saw one of my friends on Facebook listing the countdown to the number of days until the 2013 NASCAR season begins. (It begins on February 16th with the 2013 Sprint Unlimited at the Daytona International Speedway, by the way!) She is a die-hard NASCAR fan and she's ready for that starting flag to come down.
People tell me I’m funny. Not funny lookin', that I crack them up! It’s partly because I watched a lot of Saturday Night Live as a child, back when it was really good (I call it "old SNL"). I wanted to be up there on that big, glowing box making the country guffaw and snort, but hey, I was only a kid! So, I took to imitating the characters instead and performing for family and friends. I even recorded some of my best impressions on cassette (c’mon, it was the eighties!), like Gilda Radner’s Roseanne Roseannadanna.
Did you know you can write a book review or read someone else's book reviews in our catalog?
The MCPL catalog allows you to search by author, title, or subject and write a book review or read other reader's reviews. Right under the book picture, there is an link to write a review. You can either register your name and write the review or write it anonymously. You can write as little or as much as you want. It is a good way to let others know whether you enjoyed the book and a chance to post your thoughts about what you just read.
I have seen this posted on Facebook several times. Now, I’m going to challenge YOU to do this yourself.
2013 Creative Pay-It-Forward - The first five people to respond to you will receive a gift sometime in the next calendar year, something hand-made by you! It could be baked goods, a hand-sewn ornament, a scarf crocheted with your very own hands, or anything -- a surprise! There will be no warning, and you just do it when the mood strikes. The catch - -the five people you gift with a surprise must pass it on!
For those of you looking for something to warm yourself in this cold weather, and for something fun and unique to do with friends or family, consider a long lingering meal at The Melting Pot. For those of you who have never been there, The Melting Pot is a restaurant located at 450 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO. They specialize in one type of food – fondue!
Each year, MCPL sponsors a Librarians Read Challenge, where Library Staff are encouraged to read Children’s and Young Adult books throughout the months of January and February. I’m a creature of habit and always start my new year with Laura Ingalls Wilder’sLittle House on the Prairie books.
A Short List for Those Who Don’t Make New Year’s Resolutions
Today I am writing to those who don’t make resolutions. Or, those who say they don’t, but hold onto one or two good ideas, quietly, on the side. They don’t like the pressure of a formal resolution. They like to keep their options open. And tend to avoid commitment. And high profiles. And long to-do lists.
